Civic and religious weddings in the Czech Republic are fully recognized by the respective legal systems of all countries of the world.
Required documents for fiancés who are citizens of the Czech Republic:
- marriage questionnaire that you receive at the Registry Office;
- birth certificate (original or notarised copy);
- extract from the population information system on the place of permanent residence;
- state citizenship document;
- extract from the population register on personal status;
- final judgment on the divorce of the previous marriage, or the death certificate of the deceased spouse, the final decision of the court to cancel the partnership or the death certificate of the deceased partner (original or notarised copy).
Required documents for fiancés who are citizens of other countries (foreigners):
- birth certificate;
- state citizenship document;
- proof of legal capacity to marry, which may not be older than 6 months at the date of marriage;
- certificate of personal status and residence, if issued by the foreign state;
- death certificate of the deceased spouse if the foreigner is a widow/widower; this document does not need to be presented if this fact is stated in the proof of legal capacity to marry;
- final judgment on the divorce of a marriage if the foreigner who wishes to marry is divorced;
- confirmation that the marriage in the foreigner's home country is recognised as valid, if concluded by a representative;
- final decision of the court to cancel the partnership or the death certificate of the deceased partner in the case of a foreigner who lived in a partnership;
- a document that can be used as proof of identity.
In the case of church marriage, it is necessary to contact a person authorised by the competent church or religious society.
Timeframe
All the above required documents from your home country must be sent by post to our office in Prague no later than one month before the wedding day. We will ensure the translation of all documents received according to the requirements of Czech law as well as all necessary documents from the Czech authorities.
We recommend that clients arrive in Prague at least three business days before the wedding day in order to handle all documents and particulars. Our wedding coordinator will accompany you to the local authorities, which are open on Mondays and Wednesdays, before the wedding ceremony.
The translated marriage certificate will be sent to each client within 4 weeks after the ceremony through FedEx/DHL as a legal proof of marriage.
